Just How Big Is A Billion?

As leading game developer Kwalee hits 1 billion installs, see what this massive number really looks like.

Leamington Spa, January 30, 2023  - Kwalee, a global game studio has announced today that it has reached a major milestone of over one billion installs of its mobile app games. Did you know such a massive industry was hidden in the palm of your hand?

But what does one billion really look like? Kwalee has created a video that puts these big numbers in perspective.

A billion seconds is over 31 years and a billion hours adds up to more than 114,000 years. That's longer than the entire history of human civilisation. The average gamer spends just under eight and a half hours playing each week, so it would take them nearly 2.3 million years to rack up a billion hours of playtime. A typical human has 39 trillion bacteria cells, so you’d find a billion bacteria in just 2 grams of your body. That’s the same weight as two toe nails.

Here’s the video - featuring everything from planets to pixels, and bubbles to burps.

So, what does Kwalee's billion installs mean for the average person?

It means that people worldwide are spending a lot of their free time playing and enjoying Kwalee's mobile games. These games have become a significant part of people's daily lives, providing entertainment, escapism and relaxation for players everywhere.

"We’re thrilled to have reached this incredible milestone," says David Darling CBE, founder and CEO of Kwalee. "It's a testament to our team's hard work and dedication, as well as the support of our players. We look forward to continuing to create and release fun and engaging games for all to enjoy."

With over a billion installs, Kwalee has joined an exclusive club as one of the world's most successful mobile game developers. Kwalee’s expert teams, from the UK to China, will continue to push the boundaries of mobile gaming and create new and exciting experiences for the next billion players around the world. Find out more about Kwalee.
